I noticed that too. It seems that the experience you get in the demos is also random. This means that sometimes you gain a level when you expect, and sometimes you don't. As a result, your strength may not be enough to kill a certain monster in a certain number of hits. The first time something like this happens, the entire demo begins to go out of synch. A perfect example of this is the mage on the Shadow Wood demo. When he gets to level 2, he switches to the blue wand almost immediately in order to fight off some centaurs. Sometimes, he doesn't gain a level right then and he can't switch to the blue wand yet. Soon afterwards, he dies.The reason for this was that M_Random was used for experience, and not P_Random. And this affects both - demos and multiplayer (meaning that it's a serious bug).
