OK let's make it straight:
- KMOD uses an old mid-2000 build of Doomsday (0.99.6), with a lot of custom coding (some of it even on engine level). This makes it incompatible with current Doomsday versions (DD 1.x is not compatible with 0.9x). It's also not compatible with Vavoom. In short, KMOD works with no contemporary source port, only with the port provided in the distribution.
- Our upcoming single player RPG, Scattered Evil, is built on Vavoom.
- Our upcoming not yet announced multiplayer title is built on Vavoom too.

As for making custom maps for KMOD, it's possible, all you need is a WadAuthor custom config file (I think it's included in latest KMOD distributions, better ask Janis or Moose about it). You can make the map any number, you should just check the wadfiles first to see whether that number isn't already taken (over 80, I think every number is free, and some numbers below 70 too I think).
Also, upcoming KMOD 3.0 (release date unknown, most probably sometime in 2004) will have a lot better support for custom maps and hubs.
p.s. regarding old games, that's why I still keep my old Pentium MMX with DOS 6 and Win95. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->
